Domestic violence is something that happens all over the world. Domestic violence is also known as intimate partner violence. It is when one partner in a relationship emotionally, socially, physically, spiritually, financially or sexually abuses the other.
Emotional abuse is when the abuser insults, calls the victim names, yells at the victim, blaming the victim for the abuse and saying that they deserve it and threatening the victim or their children. Did you know that most domestic violence abusers are male? This is yet another example of gender inequality. This can make their child think that being a bully is okay and they will become a bully or a bully's victim.
Socially abusing someone is insulting them in public, saying they are being a bad parent/lover, demanding all the victims attention and getting paranoid if (usually) the wife is talking with another man, not letting the victim leave the house or see their family, friends or kids. This can also affect the children by not having their mother/father around because the abuser doesn't let them see the kids. This can affect the kids if they say they are a bad child. This will make them think that they are and try to be the abusers favourite by joining in on the abuse. It can also make them depressed and think that they're not good enough and get illnesses like bulimia and anorexia as they will think that if they were skinnier; aka more 'beautiful', the violence will stop.
The most common form of domestic violence is physical abuse. Physical abuse is when the abuser throws objects at the victim, pushing and shoving the victim, threatening to hurt the victim with a knife or gun etc, punching and kicking the victim and continuing when the victim is lying on the floor, choking the victim and chasing the victim. Male abusers usually have the upper hand because they are usually stronger than women so it is harder for women to fight back. Children can be hit by flying objects and get hurt and if the abuser is drunk and punch at the victim then they could accidentally hit the child. Most children will try to protect the victim parent and get hurt protecting them.
Spiritual abuse is when an abuser confuses the victim between wrong and and right eg; saying they are wrong or eg; saying stealing is okay. Spiritual abuse is also ignoring the victims opinion on things and making all the decisions, not counting them as a person, saying that they are crazy or imagining the abuse and making fun of their religion and religious practices. Spiritual abuse disobeys the human rights law by not letting them have freedom of opinion and religion and not counting them as a person. This can lead kids to believe that only one religion is right and become close minded regarding religion. They might also become very righteous.
Financial abuse is sometimes how people end up financially unstable. Financial abuse is when the abuser spends the abusers money from their bank account or a shared one without asking the victim, saying the victim is wasting their money, only letting the victim have money through an allowance and selling or buying things without the victim knowing. Financial abuse is like sort of like catfishing someone. This can affect the child/ren by how the money is spent on other things and the abuser might not spend the money on the kid/s and victims food.
These are the most common types of abuse in domestic violence. As you can see they can affect children too.
